We are looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic Recreation Therapy Assistant to become a vital part of our innovative team, assisting individuals on their path to recovery. The Recreation Therapy Assistant will collaborate closely with our clinical and counseling professionals to create, manage, and deliver recreational programs that promote physical, emotional, and social wellness, thereby contributing to the overall healing process of our clients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the planning and execution of a wide variety of recreational activities, including sports, arts and crafts, music sessions, outdoor excursions, and wellness workshops.
- Foster a welcoming and inclusive environment that encourages participation, teamwork, and a sense of belonging among clients.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of participants during recreational activities by adhering to established safety protocols.
- Maintain thorough documentation of clients' involvement and progress in recreational initiatives.
- Support the development of essential life skills, coping strategies, and healthy leisure pursuits.
- Encourage social interactions, positive relationships, and personal development within the community.
- Assist in organizing special events, outings, and workshops that align with the therapeutic objectives of the organization.
- Collaborate with external organizations, volunteers, and community partners to expand the range of recreational opportunities available.
Position Overview:
As a Therapy Assistant, you will work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team under the guidance of professionals such as audiologists, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, recreation therapists, or speech-language pathologists. Your contributions will be essential in delivering effective rehabilitation services, encompassing direct and indirect client care across various stages of health and wellness.
Required Qualifications:
Completion of a diploma from an accredited post-secondary Rehabilitation Therapy Assistant program or equivalent training is preferred.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Experience working with adults facing substance use challenges. A solid understanding of addiction and the recovery process. Proven experience in facilitating group activities. Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to connect with individuals from diverse backgrounds. Empathetic and patient demeanor, capable of providing emotional support and encouragement. Physical requirements include the ability to navigate a large facility and respond to behavioral or clinical emergencies.
Preferred Qualifications:
Familiarity with electronic medical records systems such as Connect Care. Experience supporting recreation therapy programs in residential treatment environments is an asset.
