Job Summary
The Estimator position is responsible for providing accurate and timely cost estimates for customer quotes, working closely with the Sales Department to ensure profitable orders.
This role also involves providing technical support to the Sales team and the Design Engineering department, and reporting to the VP, Sales.
Key Responsibilities
- Creating detailed layouts and mold concepts in CAD to estimate costs and reflect customer design requests.
- Collaborating with the Sales team to develop quotes that result in profitable orders.
- Preparing timely estimates of costs of materials, labor, and equipment for manufacturing projects, based on supplied drawings and customer specifications.
- Familiarity with all manufacturing processes in the plant to ensure accurate quoting.
- Reviewing and revising layout and process changes to pricing based on new information.
- Negotiating project costs related to machining services, vendors, and/or subcontractors.
- Communicating technical aspects of mold concept/design to sales and engineering teams.
- Working cross-functionally with sales, engineering, manufacturing, planning, scheduling, and supply chain to identify and resolve manufacturing and costing issues.
Minimum Qualifications
- Post-Secondary education in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years' recent experience in an estimating role within the injection mold industry.
- Experience in thin-wall, closure, and/or other custom injection molds.
- Strong experience in mold assembly design, capable of producing mold concepts using CAD (2D-3D) technology.
- Unigraphics NX preferred.
- Exposure to machining practices, process planning, and sub-contracting experience for quoting.
- Strong understanding of business concepts, including gross margins, currency conversion, and job costing.
- Intermediate level competency with MS Excel.
