Job Summary
The Ontario Teachers' Investment Team is seeking a highly skilled Investment Associate to join our High Conviction Equities team in Toronto. As an Investment Associate, you will be responsible for analyzing and evaluating potential investment opportunities within the healthcare sector, including pharmaceuticals and biotechnology companies.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze and evaluate potential investment opportunities within the healthcare sector, including pharmaceuticals and biotechnology companies.
- Generate practical investment insights from bottom-up research on business models, key value drivers, and investment risks.
- Develop detailed financial models clearly identifying recommended valuation range, critical business drivers, sensitivity analysis, etc.
- Prepare comprehensive investment memos/presentations clearly articulating industry insights, investment thesis, and recommendation for senior leadership.
- Actively participate in meetings with healthcare company management teams and outside experts.
- Monitor ongoing financial and operational performance of companies under coverage.
- Generate bespoke industry analysis in collaboration with the healthcare team, monitoring industry developments, and disseminating relevant information to the team.
- Partner with the broader equities team in Toronto as well as across offices (or other departments at Ontario Teachers') on certain transactions or initiatives.
- Support Ontario Teachers' office-wide initiatives.
Requirements
- Minimum 2+ years related work experience in asset management, equity research, pharma, healthcare investment banking, or similar roles at leading firms.
- Experience in covering pharma and biotech public equities is a strong asset.
- An undergraduate or graduate degree from a university with a focus on life sciences is helpful.
- CFA progress and/or other meaningful designations are considered a strong asset.
- Very strong analytical and quantitative skills and proven understanding of fundamental investment analysis.
- Outstanding attention to detail and ability to take ownership of tasks.
- Special emphasis on accounting, valuation, and financial modeling skills.
- Ability to develop a deep understanding of economic/business characteristics, conditions, and trends across a range of potential investments.
- Excellent communications skills, both oral and written.
- Ability to demonstrate skeptical critical thinking and to generate independent insights from research process.
- Willing/able to travel internationally.
- A high degree of maturity and initiative, with the ability to work effectively and independently.
