Position Overview

Reporting directly to the Chief Estimator, you will play a key role in supporting and leading numerous project initiatives within our Nova Scotia operations. We seek an individual with experience in Lump Sum, Construction Management, and Design Build contracts, which will be advantageous in driving project pursuits.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and develop the project scope of work to facilitate subcontractor collaboration.
  • Establish and finalize estimates using the company’s standard estimating software.
  • Create preliminary construction timelines based on input from subcontractors.
  • Conduct estimate quantification and draft cost assessments for labor, equipment, and materials.
  • Identify and formulate constructability requirements for project execution.
  • Evaluate design specifications and assist in recommending optimal solutions based on cost, engineering standards, and material availability.
  • Recognize and suggest project risks and cost mitigation strategies, as well as opportunities for savings.
  • Assess and propose potential strategies, benefits, or innovations that could enhance our competitive bidding position.
  • Review subcontractor bids for discrepancies and ensure comprehensive coverage of the project scope.
  • Participate in or lead bid closing processes under the guidance of a senior estimator.
  • Compile conceptual and budgetary costs utilizing historical project analytics and benchmarking data.
  • Oversee a small team of support estimators and operational staff, managing their time and ensuring quality of work.
  • Foster and maintain relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal stakeholders that embody Avondale’s core values.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Completion of a degree or diploma in a construction-related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in construction, combining fieldwork and estimating expertise, is preferred.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel, On-screen Takeoff, MS Project, and Bluebeam is advantageous.
