Your Opportunity:

Position Overview:

As a Recreation Therapy Specialist I, you will engage in collaborative efforts within a multidisciplinary team, delivering comprehensive therapeutic services for patients, clients, or residents in your designated program or service area. Your role will ensure that the therapeutic recreation practices are grounded in evidence, centered around the needs of patients and their families, and adhere to established policies, procedures, and standards of practice.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct assessments, develop treatment plans, and manage the educational needs of clients regarding their treatment progress.
  • Provide clinical support and consultation to enhance patient care.
  • Collaborate and communicate effectively with the healthcare team, participating in patient rounds, family meetings, and relevant discussions related to client care.

Required Qualifications:

A bachelor's degree in Recreation Therapy, Therapeutic Recreation, or Recreation and Leisure Studies is essential. Active or eligible registration with the Alberta Therapeutic Recreation Association (ATRA) is also required.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Experience in community-based settings across a variety of environments is considered an asset. A valid CPR certification is mandatory.

Preferred Qualifications:

Certification as a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist through the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC) is advantageous. A Class IV Driver's License is also beneficial. A strong focus on patient and family-centered care, coupled with the ability to thrive in a collaborative team environment, is essential. Demonstrated punctuality, reliability, and a verifiable attendance record are highly valued.
