Job Title: Language Acquisition Support Worker

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Language Acquisition Support Worker to join our team at the Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board. As a Language Acquisition Support Worker, you will play a vital role in supporting students who are deaf or hard of hearing to develop their language skills and achieve academic success.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide language modeling services, including oral and manual communication, to support students' language acquisition in various educational settings.
  • Collaborate with teachers and other support staff to develop and implement individualized communication plans for students.
  • Prepare educational materials and resources to support students' language development.
  • Participate in parent-teacher conferences, IEP meetings, and other educational team meetings to ensure effective communication and collaboration.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with students, families, and community members to promote a positive and inclusive learning environment.
Requirements:
  • Two-year college diploma in a related field, such as Educational Assistant, Early Childhood Education, or Youth Care Worker.
  • Sign Language Proficiency minimum ASL 303 or ASL as their primary language.
  • One year of related experience working with students who are deaf or hard of hearing.
  • Current Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) certification.
  • Demonstrated fluency in American Sign Language (ASL).
  • Knowledge of child and language development, cross-cultural issues, and communication strategies.
