Job Title: Staff Research Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Staff Research Engineer to join our team at Huawei Technologies Canada Co., Ltd.

About the Role

This is a unique opportunity to work on cutting-edge research and development projects in the field of intelligent autonomous systems. As a Staff Research Engineer, you will be responsible for leading research activities, identifying new opportunities for research, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to integrate research findings into practical applications.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Conduct research in the safety assurance of complex intelligent systems, including embodied AI systems, robotics, and autonomous systems.
  2. Present research findings and progress updates to team members and stakeholders.
  3. Investigate paradigms that can deliver a spectrum of embodied behaviors, from simulated characters to real robots.
  4. Challenge the status quo, both technically and process-wise.
  5. Collaborate with external partners and research institutions to foster innovation and expand the reach of our research.
  6. Stay updated with industry trends and advancements in the field of intelligent autonomous systems.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  1. A PhD in Computer Science, Robotics, Artificial Intelligence, or a relevant technical field.
  2. Proficiency in programming languages such as C/C++, Python, or similar.
  3. Familiarity with real-time, multi-process, multi-threaded coding, and command line in Linux.
  4. Outstanding engineering skills for rapid research prototyping, open-source release, or production development.
  5. Excellent knowledge and hands-on experience with ML/DL, LLMs, multimodal foundation models, or large generative models.
  6. 2+ years of hands-on experience in R&D of pioneering AI and robotics algorithms, systems.
  7. 2+ years of experience in areas like perception, SLAM, decision making, motion planning, and control systems.
  8. Ability to cut through ambiguity and follow through to task completion despite roadblocks or distractions.
