POSITION SUMMARY:

The Cultural Support Facilitator plays a vital role in fostering participation among community members in traditional practices, ceremonies, and events. This position involves organizing, coordinating, and facilitating activities under the guidance of the program coordinator. The incumbent is expected to uphold the Ma Mawi Wi Chi Itata Centre's Code of Honour and adhere to the service philosophy of Astum Api Niikinaahk, which emphasizes trauma-informed and harm reduction support for community members.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Encourage community members to actively engage in cultural teachings and events.
  • Facilitate traditional activities that promote cultural understanding and community bonding.
  • Provide support and assistance to individuals, fostering a sense of belonging within the Astum Api Niikinaahk community.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • In-depth knowledge and experience in traditional Indigenous practices.
  • Post-secondary education in Indigenous studies or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Recognized leader within Indigenous communities, providing spiritual and cultural guidance.
  • Strong understanding of Indigenous cultural needs and available resources.
  • Active involvement in Indigenous traditions and ceremonies, with a comprehensive understanding of cultural practices.
  • Experience working with individuals facing homelessness or at risk of homelessness.
  • Ability to build effective relationships with diverse populations, including Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities.
  • Trained in trauma-informed care and harm reduction methodologies.
  • Knowledge of crisis intervention techniques and risk management strategies, including CPR and Mental Health First Aid.
  • Possession of a valid Class 5 Driver's License is preferred; having a vehicle is an asset.
  • All candidates must undergo a criminal record check and child abuse registry check.
