Position Overview

About the Opportunity:

Cyient is seeking a dedicated Field Technician to join our Telecommunications Business Unit. The successful candidate will engage in Outside Plant (OSP) field data collection across various locations. This role involves visiting multiple sites daily to assess and document existing field conditions related to telecommunications infrastructure, including poles, aerial and underground structures, as well as street and right-of-way measurements for both current and future fiber designs and equipment placements. You will conduct field surveys (ISP/OSP) and meticulously document your findings through notes, photographs, and sketches. Your insights will assist Design Specialists in evaluating potential cable pathways and site surveys. Additionally, you will perform utility and right-of-way research, interpret utility plans, and review civil design blueprints, ensuring the accuracy of information from various sources, including GIS maps and Google Earth.

Travel Requirements:

You must be prepared to travel up to 90% of the time, often for extended durations. The company will cover food and lodging expenses, and mileage reimbursement will be provided for personal vehicle use.

Key Responsibilities:

Visit multiple job sites daily to evaluate proposed fiber facilities and telecommunications infrastructure, ensuring field accuracy and suggesting necessary adjustments. Collect field measurements and photographs of utility poles, equipment, cables, and street dimensions. Collaborate with the permit team to review and submit encroachment permits to relevant authorities, including state and municipal agencies. Conduct outdoor work daily, adapting to various weather conditions.

Qualifications:

A minimum of 1 year of experience in utility construction within an outside plant environment is preferred. Familiarity with telecommunications and utility poles, as well as MDU/BAU field surveys, is strongly preferred. At least 1 year of experience with existing and proposed telecommunications equipment. Experience in reading and analyzing utility work prints for over a year. Knowledge of aerial, underground, or buried telecommunications infrastructure for at least 1 year. Preferred experience with IKE data collection for over a year. A valid driver's license with a clean driving record is required.

Skills & Competencies:

Strong communication skills are essential for interacting with utility and governmental agencies, as well as engineering firms. Proficiency in computer applications and a solid understanding of telecommunications and utility surveys are also necessary.
