POSITION SUMMARY

The role of the Estimator at CANA is pivotal in the successful planning and execution of construction projects. Estimators support both the preconstruction and construction teams by preparing and issuing tender packages, developing estimates for all project phases, and maintaining precise and current cost databases. The Estimator reports directly to the Chief Estimator.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Analyzing project requirements and estimate specifications, reviewing project scopes, establishing a plan for estimate development, and identifying subcontractor scope packages.
  • Reviewing architectural plans and specifications to perform takeoffs and determine material, equipment, and labor requirements along with pricing.
  • Preparing comprehensive tender packages, including all necessary forms, schedules, and attachments, while ensuring all approvals and bonding requirements are met.
  • Issuing tender packages and coordinating the receipt of subcontractor bids, while assessing bids for accuracy.
  • Maintaining confidential records and files, ensuring they are accurate and up-to-date, and performing bid leveling for precise cost comparisons.
  • Recommending cost-effective solutions and identifying potential risks and opportunities.
  • Developing and sustaining strong relationships with local trades, subcontractors, engineers, architects, and project owners.

IDEAL CANDIDATE PROFILE

  • 3 or more years of experience in estimating for industrial, commercial, and institutional construction projects.
  • Diploma, degree, or equivalent experience in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of various building types, traditional subcontractor work scopes, construction systems and methods, specifications, building codes, tendering practices, and contract types.
  • Relationship-oriented individual focused on both internal and external customer needs.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams.
  • Familiarity with Planswift; experience with Microsoft Project and/or Revizto is considered an asset.
