About the Role
The Registered Nurse (RN) plays a vital role in delivering high-quality patient care in our Adult Inpatient Mental Health unit. As a key member of our interdisciplinary team, you will be responsible for providing direct patient care, collaborating with colleagues, and contributing to a safe and inclusive environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide patient-focused care within the RN scope of practice, adhering to the College of Nurses of Ontario's three-factor framework.
- Function in accordance with established hospital policies and procedures, including emergency codes.
- Ensure practice is consistent with entry-to-practice competencies, standards of practice, guidelines, and legislation.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
- Practice collaboratively with colleagues to provide elements of care for patients with complex health issues.
- Provide consultation and clinical support to peers as needed.
- Contribute to the assessment and documentation of each patient's health status on an ongoing basis.
- Assist in the development and implementation of the Plan of Care and evaluate its effectiveness.
- Assist in the orientation and preceptorship of new staff members and students.
- Act as a role model and champion to identify and integrate safe, best practices into daily activities.
- Take a leadership role in the coordination of patient care in assigned areas.
- Assume charge nurse responsibilities when assigned.
Qualifications
- Registered and in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) as a Registered Nurse.
- Current BCLS certificate required.
- Three (3) years of recent experience in acute mental health, preferred.
- Ability to rapidly shift workload priorities.
- Knowledge of ECT treatments and recovery.
- Knowledge of recovery-focused model of care.
- Excellent knowledge of the Mental Health Act.
- Excellent understanding of psychotropic medications.
- Demonstrated skills in assessment, individualized care planning, intervention, evaluation, and discharge planning for patients with various and complex mental health issues.
- Ability to perform duties in a professional and courteous manner, producing high-quality work while meeting deadlines and budget in accordance with Southlake Regional Health Centre standards.
