Job Description

Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to join our team at Finning. As an Electrical Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining electrical systems for our power generation projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor technical scope, schedule, and implement design work while ensuring accuracy and quality.
  • Collaborate with other departments to achieve project targets and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Review engineering inquiries and prepare timely responses to stakeholders.
  • Liaise with project and operation teams to provide support and guidance as necessary.
  • Interface with suppliers, packagers, customers, and regulatory authorities throughout the project.
  • Manage and maintain effective relationships between internal and external stakeholders while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Travel to sites for commissioning electrical systems.

Requirements:

  • Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with EGBC or APEGA, or Engineer-In-Training (E.I.T.) with relevant experience.
  • 3 to 5 years of formal training and experience in industrial design with at least 2 years as a project engineer.
  • Knowledge and experience in Power Generation and Power System design, with emphasis on diesel and natural gas generator sets.
  • Knowledge and experience of switchgears, transfer switches, MCCs, and powerhouse design including HVAC control.
  • Knowledge of Generator and Power System controls, protections, grounding/bonding designs, electrical or mechanical designs, and electrical or mechanical equipment sizing.
  • Knowledge of Power Systems technologies and applications.
  • Knowledge of applicable Codes, standards, and acceptable industry practices (CSA, CEC, IEEE, cUL, etc.).
  • Experience drafting electrical schematics using AutoCAD/AutoCAD Electrical.
  • Experience programming and commissioning automation control systems (PLC, HMI, SCADA) with platforms such as Siemens, Allen Bradley, Schneider, etc.
  • Experience programming and commissioning generator control systems such as Woodward, DEIF, ComAp, etc.
  • Proficient in MS Office applications and internal systems, expert-level knowledge of MS Excel, and advanced knowledge of MS Office coupled with MS Project.
  • Superior engineering skills and ability to interact with all engineering disciplines.
  • Strong attention to detail, excellent organizational, interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Visible, accessible, and communicates effectively to all levels of employees. Good presentation and influencing skills.
  • Teamwork in diverse and challenging environments.
  • Technical acumen and Problem-Solving abilities.
