About the Role

Peak North America Construction is on the lookout for a committed Safety and Compliance Specialist to become part of our dynamic team. The successful applicant will play a crucial role in ensuring the enforcement of corporate health, safety, and environmental (HSE) policies and protocols at our construction sites in Canada, particularly focusing on the management of WorkSafe BC claims. The ideal candidate will have a robust understanding of WorkSafe BC claim procedures, exhibit excellent communication skills, and demonstrate strong collaborative abilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work closely with PNAC's General Manager, site supervisors, and HSE staff to formulate and execute comprehensive HSE strategies and programs that comply with regulatory standards and company policies.
  • Conduct regular inspections and audits of job sites to pinpoint hazards, evaluate risks, and ensure adherence to HSE regulations.
  • Deliver training and guidance to employees and subcontractors regarding safe work practices, hazard identification, and accident prevention.
  • Act as the primary liaison for WorkSafe BC claims management, ensuring timely reporting, investigation, and resolution of workplace incidents and injuries.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals, claims adjusters, and other stakeholders to ensure prompt and appropriate care for injured workers and effective claims management.
  • Track and analyze WorkSafe BC claims data to identify trends and areas for enhancement in injury prevention and claims handling processes.
  • Maintain thorough records and documentation related to HSE activities, including incident reports and claims documentation.
  • Ensure health and safety software is current with up-to-date employee information and certifications.
  • Assist in creating and delivering HSE training programs, toolbox talks, and safety meetings to foster a culture of safety excellence within the organization.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in a similar capacity, ideally within the industrial construction or forestry sectors.
  • Proven experience in managing WorkSafe BC claims, including knowledge of claims reporting, investigation, and return-to-work processes.
  • A combination of experience and training will be taken into account.

Essential Skills and Attributes

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook is essential.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of relevant HSE regulations and standards, particularly BC's Worker's Compensation Act and WCB policies.
  • Strong planning, organizational, coordination, and time management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage and collaborate with employees, management, and external partners.
  • Proactive, detail-oriented, action-driven, and results-focused.
  • Willingness to travel frequently to project sites.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license and a satisfactory driving record.
