Job Summary:

The Respiratory Therapist III - Clinical Practice Lead will be responsible for mentoring and promoting standards of practice within the Anesthesia Care Team. This role will involve responding to clinical questions, coordinating ongoing skill and student development, and collaborating with managers and supervisors to provide access to continuing education and professional development programs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Mentor and promote standards of practice within the Anesthesia Care Team
  • Respond to clinical questions and provide guidance
  • Coordinate ongoing skill and student development
  • Collaborate with managers and supervisors to provide access to continuing education and professional development programs
  • Assist with the delivery of general anesthesia, regional anesthesia, and monitored anesthesia care
  • Administer various anesthetics, medical gases, medications, blood and blood products, and crystalloid or colloid solutions
  • Assemble, operate, and monitor anesthetic gas machines
  • Perform invasive and non-invasive monitoring techniques, interpret results, and evaluate patient response to interventions
  • Apply ultrasound as required for line placement, nerve block placement, or clinical assessment
  • Manage mechanical ventilation, including mode, adjunct, and oxygen changes
  • Transport ventilated and/or anesthetized patients
  • Perform blood tests and interpretation
  • Administer oxygen therapies
  • Manage airway
  • Document clinical information accurately, completely, and concisely
  • Communicate effectively with the surgeon, surgical team, and anesthesiologist
  • Recognize critical events and initiate supportive and corrective action

Requirements:

  • Active or eligible for registration with the College and Association of Respiratory Therapists of Alberta (CARTA)
  • Bachelor's degree in a health-related discipline (preferred)
  • Experience with Connect Care and interprofessional teams (preferred)
