About the Role
As a Data Engineer, you will play a crucial role in implementing, improving, and maintaining Block's business intelligence solutions. This includes partnering and consulting with business and analytics teams to provide guidance and assistance in creating and streamlining reports. You will design and develop scalable turn-key data pipelines, partner with product analysts, data scientists, engineers, business users, and others to understand their needs and come up with an end-to-end solution, and translate business requirements to actionable data solutions.
Responsibilities
- Become a subject matter expert on business intelligence platforms and visualization tools
- Design and develop scalable turn-key data pipelines
- Partner with product analysts, data scientists, engineers, business users, and others to understand their needs and come up with an end-to-end solution
- Translate business requirements to actionable data solutions
- Hold office hours, training sessions, brown bags, and more to evangelize business intelligence best practices throughout the company
Qualifications
- 5+ years building and supporting reporting data systems built on columnar-oriented RDBMS systems
- Strong experience in visualization technologies, including business intelligence platforms and/or another BI tool
- Strong experience building data pipelines to support analytical workloads
- Knowledge of at least one mature programming language
- Experience with cloud-based data tools and services
- Strong technical accomplishments in SQL and data analysis skills
- Strong business intuition and ability to understand complex business systems
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience with business intelligence platforms and/or another BI tool
- Prior experience with data pipeline orchestration platforms
- Experience with Linux/OSX command line, version control software, and general software development
- Experience leveraging APIs to automate tasks
- Teaching/training/consulting experience
Compensation and Benefits
Block takes a market-based approach to pay, and pay may vary depending on your location. We have listed some of our common hiring locations. Depending on the cost of labor in the relevant geographic area, state work locations that are approximately 50 kilometers outside of the metro area listed may be aligned to a different zone.
