Job Summary
The Pharmacy Technician will play a critical role in supporting the clinical operations of the pharmacy department at PHSA. This individual will be responsible for processing medication orders, receiving and verifying prescriptions, and preparing and dispensing medications to patients.
Key Responsibilities
- Process clinically reviewed and approved medication orders for distribution to patients.
- Receive and verify prescriptions from practitioners, ensuring that they are complete and authentic.
- Prepare and process prescriptions by entering orders, counting, measuring, packaging, or re-packaging medications and compounding sterile pharmaceutical products.
- Ensure the accuracy and completeness of dispensed prescriptions prepared by self or others.
- Enter and ensure the accuracy and completeness of drug and personal health information in the pharmacy information system.
- Transfer prescriptions to and receive prescriptions from other pharmacies.
- Process prescriptions for temporary inpatient leaves of absence.
- Maintain accurate records, including medication verification and quality assurance checks.
- Distribute medications and maintain relevant inventory, wardstock, and narcotic records.
- Maintain inventory and wardstock levels, fill requisitions, and identify outdated drugs for return or destruction.
- Perform related clerical duties, such as keyboarding, answering the phone, filing, and maintaining medication and prescription records.
Requirements
- Current registration as a Pharmacy Technician with the College of Pharmacists of British Columbia.
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Ability to deal with others effectively.
- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
- Ability to keyboard.
- Ability to organize work.
- Ability to operate related equipment.
- Awareness of and commitment to learning and understanding the Truth & Reconciliation Commission's 94 Calls to Action (2015), In Plain Sight Report (2020), BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019), and other related reports.
- Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada as per TRC (2015) and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019).
