Position Overview
This role is pivotal in ensuring the precise and prompt documentation of financial activities within the organization’s accounting framework. The Senior Accountant will also oversee compliance with the financial closing schedule and uphold Internal Controls over Financial Reporting (ICFR), in addition to conducting financial assessments of outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
• Ensuring adherence to the monthly financial closing timeline, which includes processing journal entries and performing account analyses to accurately reflect values in the general ledger, particularly in regulatory accounting areas (e.g., electric distribution, pension, environmental, etc.)
• Assisting in the compilation of the monthly financial reporting package
• Conducting reconciliations of general ledger accounts
• Generating regulatory compliance reports
• Offering guidance to operational teams regarding expense account coding
• Supporting various internal departments including utility operations, regulatory affairs, customer service, procurement, and administrative functions
• Analyzing financial data for stakeholders requiring financial insights
• Proposing solutions to business challenges while embracing change as a core aspect of performance
• Completing special projects as necessary (e.g., support for audits, regulatory filings)
• Preparing quarterly cash flow statements and balance sheet analyses
• Maintaining financial results in alignment with ICFR standards
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s or Associate’s Degree in Accounting is preferred
• Experience in the utility sector is advantageous
• Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles is essential
• At least 3 years of relevant professional experience
• Ability to collaborate effectively within a team
• Exceptional interpersonal skills, professional demeanor, and effective communication abilities
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel
• Familiarity with regulatory accounting is a plus
• Proven ability to analyze financial data and identify significant variances, trends, and anomalies
• Capability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines
• Demonstrated problem-solving skills with a focus on identifying key issues and developing efficient solutions
• Ability to establish trust and rapport with both internal and external stakeholders
