Qualifications and Experience

We are seeking a highly skilled Clinical Counsellor to join our team at Island Health. The ideal candidate will have a Master's degree in a health-related discipline and be eligible for registration with the appropriate regulatory body.

The successful candidate will have a minimum of two years' recent experience in areas requiring assessment and therapeutic interventions, with a strong understanding of mental health and substance misuse, psychiatric and suicide/homicide risk assessments, and treatment methodologies.

The candidate will also have advanced knowledge of available programs and services, their interrelationships, and their function in delivering care in the community, as well as knowledge of applicable legislation such as the Mental Health Act and Child Protection legislation.

The successful candidate will possess excellent interpersonal and clinical skills, including crisis intervention, stabilization, de-escalation, and psychotherapy, as well as organizational, problem-solving, and teaching skills.

They will also have the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, and to work professionally and effectively with challenging/at-risk clients, as well as collaborate with a multidisciplinary team and proactively manage and resolve conflict.

The ideal candidate will be able to promote positive change and independence, prioritize and organize their workload, and carry out the duties of the position.
