Education Support Specialist

We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Education Support Specialist to join our team at Parkland School Division.
About the Role:The successful candidate will provide support to students with varying needs, working closely with teachers and other educational staff to ensure a positive and inclusive learning environment.
Key Responsibilities:- Instructional Support:
- Provide one-on-one or small group support to students in all curriculum areas, as directed by the teacher.
- Assist with organizing materials, preparing snacks, and laminating articles.
- Modify and prepare materials for students with special needs.
- Assist with implementing Individual Program Plans (IPPs) and adaptive devices.
- Provide support with computer access and educational software packages.
- Assist with communication between peers and adults in the school.
- Behavioural Support:
- Observe, chart, and monitor individual student progress and behavior.
- Assist the teacher in maintaining a safe and secure environment for students and staff.
- Provide behavioral management assistance for students with behavioral disorders.
- Student Assistance and Personal Care:
- Assist students with walking, personal care, and hygiene.
- Provide feeding assistance, lifting, and handling of medically fragile students.
- Assist with toileting and diapering for students who are physically dependent.
- Speech Therapy/Occupational Therapy/Physical Therapy:
- Assist students with speech language difficulties, as instructed by the Speech Pathologist.
- Update progress on a daily basis for Individual Program Plan purposes.
- Provide physiotherapy programs as directed.
- Communication and Reporting:
- Communicate observations regarding health and behaviors to the teacher.
- Maintain accurate medication data sheets and record medical situations.
- Assist Teacher/Classroom Preparation:
- Organize bulletin board displays, photocopy material, and prepare snacks.
- Modify and prepare materials for special needs students.
- Supervise Students:
- Supervise and assist students in preparing for special activities.
- Provide active supervision and support with students in typical school-related physical activities.
- Community Living and Vocational Skills:
- Travel with students to job placements and provide job training.
- Assist students to be integrated into the regular classroom.
- Student Personal Development:
- Assist in building the self-esteem and self-confidence of students.
- Encourage students to participate in classroom activities to build social skills.
- Education:
- High School Diploma.
- Teacher Assistant Certificate or Educational Assistant Certificate is an asset.
- Experience:
- 1 to 3 years of related experience.
- Knowledge, Skills, and Attitudes:
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Good interpersonal skills.
- A good sense of humor.
- Good health and physical fitness.
- The ability to take direction and work independently.
- Flexibility, patience, sensitivity, tolerance, enthusiasm, creativity, and imagination.
- Work indoors except when supervising children outdoors or going on field trips.
- May have the same holiday schedule as teachers, including a long summer break as well as winter and spring breaks.
