Position Overview

This role provides essential support to First Nations communities and the regional mental health and wellness team in executing various strategies and projects linked to the Aboriginal Youth Suicide Prevention Strategy (NAYSPS) and other initiatives aimed at enhancing the well-being of youth at community and Nation levels. The position is designed to bolster Indigenous cultural capacity, suicide intervention training, and promote youth wellness through various health and wellness initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

1. Serve as a youth engagement partner, actively engaging with communities to gather insights and identify current needs related to youth and child initiatives, providing valuable feedback to program leaders.
2. Participate in community meetings and wellness discussions, collecting and communicating relevant information to program leaders based on meeting themes.
3. Establish and nurture new youth community networks.
4. Develop and present mental health workshops tailored for Indigenous culture camps.
5. Represent FNHA at conferences and conduct workshops focused on Indigenous culture and suicide intervention training.
6. Offer coordination and program delivery support for youth and child initiatives, collaborating with both internal and external program leaders.
7. As part of the FNHA mental health team, respond to community requests regarding child and youth initiatives, ensuring alignment and avoiding duplication of services.
8. Provide insights on community youth perspectives to enhance training and initiatives related to child and youth programs, potentially co-facilitating program sessions.
9. Engage in community and sub-regional or Nation Mental Health program projects, providing coordination support to ensure timely project completion.
10. Act as a liaison for community partners, offering information about child and youth program resources, engagement opportunities, and related matters.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

• Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Child and Youth Care, or Psychology, along with relevant experience or a comparable combination of education and training (typically acquired over 1-2 years).

• Experience working with First Nations communities.

• Proven experience interacting with children, youth, and families.

Knowledge, Skills & Attributes


• Understanding of First Nations cultural principles and protocols applicable in professional settings.

• Familiarity with BC health systems and services.

• Knowledge of community planning concepts and systems-based child and youth care.

• Proficiency in program planning, implementation, management, and evaluation.

• Awareness of risk and protective factors associated with suicide.

• Understanding of effective community-based suicide prevention practices with a focus on life promotion.

• Knowledge of community health program planning and delivery.

The salary range reflects the minimum and maximum annual compensation based on full-time equivalent hours. Typically, new hires, transfers, or promotions occur between the minimum and midpoint of the range, depending on the individual's knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience relative to the role requirements. The upper 10% of the pay range is reserved for those who demonstrate exceptional expertise and competencies in the role.
