Position Overview
Reporting directly to the Production Manager, the Director of Operations & Process Management is responsible for strategizing and overseeing the plant's production activities while spearheading critical and intricate projects within the production sector.
The ideal candidate will possess a robust technical foundation, showcasing a proven track record in maintaining precise documentation and a strong aptitude for organizing and enhancing a Work Management System that adheres to regulatory and production quality standards.
This role demands a meticulous and results-oriented professional with a comprehensive understanding of food manufacturing, planning, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), and root cause analysis.
The Director is committed to delivering the highest quality products and fostering a workplace where employees take pride in their contributions. They prioritize food quality, safety, and compliance with all regulatory requirements and customer expectations.
Qualifications
Applicants must have the legal right to work in Canada and possess strong English language proficiency. The ability to comprehend written English and communicate effectively in both spoken and written forms is essential.
Education: A degree in Engineering, Technology, Food Science, or a related discipline.
Experience: A minimum of five (5) years of experience in a food processing environment, preferably within cross-functional teams.
Key Responsibilities
1. Supervise production processes and daily operations, leading problem-solving initiatives and adjustments to maintain production schedules and efficiency. Collaborate closely with the Production Manager and all production supervisors to enhance overall departmental performance.
2. Assess daily operations, documentation, and reports from production personnel to ensure accuracy and address deviations; collaborate with technical staff and production supervisors to resolve operational challenges.
3. Coordinate with various departments including Quality, Maintenance, Engineering, R&D, Marketing, Supply Chain, HR, and HSE.
4. Actively engage in and lead continuous improvement projects aimed at enhancing Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), minimizing manufacturing losses, reducing labor costs, optimizing inventory levels, and streamlining manufacturing operations without compromising quality.
5. Assist the Production Manager in establishing and executing objectives and action plans to meet production Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and achieve desired outcomes.
6. Review new and existing product specifications, revising current standards and providing recommendations.
7. Develop, implement, and uphold production Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), including documentation and training for production staff.
8. Ensure timely and thorough sanitation of all equipment and facilities to facilitate efficient and timely production start-ups and product deliveries.
9. Adhere to and enforce Quality Policies and Procedures, including food safety, HAACP, traceability, and production hold investigations.
10. Diagnose process areas by identifying and analyzing operational issues, advising and guiding processing operators on necessary actions to rectify malfunctions and ensure efficient plant operations.
11. Plan, organize, manage, and evaluate plant production activities while consistently seeking improvements to enhance efficiency.
12. Formulate strategies for the effective use of materials, labor, and equipment to achieve production targets.
13. Participate in the oversight and evaluation of manufacturing equipment installation and testing, ensuring safety and compliance at every phase.
14. Develop and oversee the implementation of production tracking or quality control systems, analyzing production, quality control, maintenance, or other operational reports to identify production issues.
15. Ensure all team members are knowledgeable about and adhere to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
16. Perform additional duties as assigned by the Production Manager.
Work Environment
The standard working hours are Monday through Friday, from 8:30 am to 5:30 pm. Most tasks are conducted during regular weekday office hours; however, due to the nature of our international operations, work hours may vary to meet business demands. Flexibility in scheduling is required, including potential evening and weekend hours.
As a dairy processor and infant formula manufacturer, Canada Royal Milk is committed to exceeding regulatory standards for food safety, quality, hygiene, and good manufacturing practices. All employees entering processing areas must comply with food safety protocols and health and safety best practices.
Most work is conducted in an office setting, with occasional requirements to work in other areas of the facility as necessary. While performing job duties, employees are regularly required to sit, frequently walk, use hands for various tasks, reach with hands and arms, and communicate verbally. Employees may occasionally need to stand and must frequently lift or move objects weighing up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift or move objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
