Job Summary

The Cree Board of Health and Social Services of James Bay (CBHSSJB) is seeking a skilled and compassionate Cultural Liaison Officer to join our team. This is a unique opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of our community members.

Key Responsibilities
  • Program Development and Implementation: Design, implement, update, analyze, and assess activities in one or more social programs, ensuring they meet the needs of various community categories.
  • Client Referral and Support: Refer clients to appropriate traditional healers and Elders, providing support and guidance as needed.
  • Protocol and Guidelines Development: Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to develop, achieve, and assess intervention or rehabilitation programs and plans, ensuring adherence to Nishiiyuu protocols and guidelines.
  • Community Engagement: Ensure the involvement and awareness of family members and the surrounding community in the application of intervention or rehabilitation plans.
  • Resource Referral and Research: Refer users to various resources and pathways available to meet their needs, and initiate, support, and carry out development or research projects as necessary.
  • Reporting and Quality Assurance: Provide statistics, indicators, and units of measure, and produce various types of reports, ensuring implementation of policies, standards, and quality assurance programs.
  • Evaluation and Recommendations: Develop and implement methods to evaluate users' progress and make recommendations for modification, ensuring alignment with Nishiiyuu Miyupimaatisiiun paradigms and practices.
  • Training and Guidance: Provide support, training, or guidance to other staff members, healthcare providers, or those supporting users' quality of life.
Requirements
  • Education: A university degree in social sciences, such as criminology, social work, sexology, or psychology, depending on the given sphere of activities.
  • Experience: Two (2) years of pertinent experience.
  • Knowledge and Abilities: Knowledge of Nishiiyuu Miyupimaatisiiun (Cree Helping Methods), current First Nations traditional holistic health and healing models, trends, and issues, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, autonomy, discretion, and empathy, and team work capabilities.
  • Language: Fluency in Cree and English; fluency in French is an asset.
