Sonographer Position Overview

Reporting to the Manager and under the general supervision of the Charge Sonographer, the Sonographer is responsible for performing a wide variety of standardized and complex sonography services within a healthcare setting. The role focuses on diagnosing and tracking disease and pathology through ultrasound imaging, ensuring accurate reports are prepared for physician interpretation.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare patients for examinations, ensuring their comfort and understanding of the procedure.
  • Obtain high-quality ultrasound images that meet diagnostic standards, utilizing specialized equipment effectively.
  • Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals to assist in diagnosis and patient management, contributing to comprehensive care plans.
  • Share knowledge and expertise by educating new staff members and students, fostering a culture of learning and development within the team.

Experience:

Previous experience in a similar role is preferred but not required.

Education:

A graduate degree from an accredited program in Diagnostic Ultrasound is essential for this position.

Certification/Licensure/Registration:

  • Eligibility for registration with Sonography Canada CRGS is mandatory.
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training is required to ensure patient safety and preparedness for emergencies.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Preference will be given to candidates with Indigenous language competency, reflecting our commitment to cultural diversity and inclusivity.
  • A high degree of technical expertise in ultrasound imaging techniques is crucial for success in this role.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills are essential for effective collaboration with patients, colleagues, and physicians.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities are necessary to address challenges and ensure accurate diagnoses.

Physical Requirements:

  • The ability to stand or walk for extended periods is required due to the nature of patient interactions and equipment operation.
  • Safe body mechanics must be demonstrated when working with patients, including those who are unconscious, to prevent injury to both yourself and the patient.
  • Positioning patients, regardless of their condition, is a key responsibility of this role.
  • Exposure to various medical conditions and environments is inherent to this position.
