Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Junior Metallurgist to join our team at SGS. As a key member of our metallurgical team, you will be responsible for assisting in laboratory, sample preparation, and pilot plant environments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in large-scale pilot plants and interpret results under the supervision of a Senior Metallurgist and/or Project Manager.
  • Participate in technical groups, including Mineral Processing, Gold Processing, and Hydrometallurgy.
  • Aid in drafting and preparing portions of reports for clients.
  • Assist in managing small projects of variable scope and complexity in the Mineral Processing, Gold Processing, and Hydrometallurgy groups.
  • Support in compiling and analyzing metallurgical data.
  • Assist in scheduling metallurgical test work.
  • Direct technicians/technologists.
  • Verify and report results.
  • May travel to other SGS metallurgical laboratory locations in Canada or overseas.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's University degree in Chemical Engineering, Mineral Processing, Hydrometallurgy, Mining Engineering, or a related science discipline.
  • Up to 3 years of previous working experience in a minerals-related field or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Previous experience in mineral processing, hydro metallurgy, and gold metallurgy, including flowsheet development, bench-scale test work is an asset.
  • Must be able to read, understand, and follow work instructions in a safe, accurate, and timely manner.
  • Candidates must be proficient in using various types of computer software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.).
  • Ability to manage and coordinate multiple projects in a fast-paced, highly professional environment.
  • Demonstrates excellent verbal and written communication skills, including grammar and composition.
  • Ability to work well with others and independently.
  • Proven time management skills and a strong attention to detail.
  • Works well under pressure.
  • Extended hours may be required from time to time.
  • Travel may be required from time to time.
