Position Overview

The Graduate Assistant will play a vital role in supporting the MIME program through various responsibilities aimed at enhancing the educational experience of students.

Key Responsibilities

  • Preparation Duties: 1.50 Hours/Term
    Prepare for classes by developing written or audiovisual materials and updating course-related content.
  • Laboratory Supervision: 8.00 Hours/Term
    Oversee laboratory sessions, demonstrate equipment usage, assist students with technical procedures, and support project work within designated labs.
  • Student Consultation: 4.00 Hours/Term
    Engage with students for consultations, including electronic communication.
  • Grading and Proctoring: 18.00 Hours/Term
    Assist in evaluating tests, lab assignments, essays, and term papers. Responsible for proctoring exams and ensuring adherence to grading standards as outlined by the supervising instructor.
  • Collaboration with Supervising Instructor: 1.00 Hours/Term
    Meet regularly with the supervising instructor and participate in mandatory training sessions.

Total Commitment: 32.50 Hours/Term

Note: The maximum allowable hours for a Graduate Assistant contract is 130 hours per term, with a cumulative limit of 390 hours within an academic year. Actual hours may vary based on qualifications and pay rates. No guaranteed work hours are provided, and payment is not issued during non-assignment periods.

Qualifications

  • Current enrollment as a MASc or PhD student in engineering.
  • Prior performance evaluation as an Assistant at the University (if applicable).
  • Minimum Academic Performance: 3.0 GPA or higher.
  • Preference will be given to Doctoral candidates, followed by Master's candidates.

Compensation

Hourly rates are as follows:
Master's candidates: $47.06 per hour
PhD candidates: $50.82 per hour
