Opportunity Overview

SECURE Waste Services Richmond is currently seeking a Transfer Station Labourer. This role encompasses a variety of responsibilities, including the cleaning and preparation of empty waste containers for redeployment, loading and unloading supplies and waste containers from various trucks and trailers, and handling both empty and full waste containers manually and with small equipment. Additional tasks include the shipping and receiving of inbound and outbound loads, as well as other duties as required by general operations.

Work Environment Details

This position typically involves a standard 40-hour workweek from Monday to Friday, with occasional on-call responsibilities. Flexibility in shifts, extended hours, weekend work, and occasional travel may be necessary based on business needs. Candidates should be prepared to work in adverse weather conditions and challenging environments.

Daily Responsibilities

  • Assist in maintaining a clean and organized facility.
  • Monitor available supplies and determine which containers require cleaning and preparation.
  • Ensure all documentation complies with legal requirements and SECURE guidelines.
  • Safely operate and perform preventative maintenance on small equipment, including forklifts, pallet jacks, and drum clamps.
  • Load supplies and empty waste containers onto SECURE vehicles.
  • Unload supplies from delivery vehicles, both manually and using equipment.
  • Offload inbound waste containers from various trucks and trailers.
  • Verify and complete documentation for inbound and outbound supplies and waste.
  • Repack waste under the supervision of a Facility Technician.
  • Process waste as directed by a Facility Technician.
  • Actively track all waste containers within the facility.
  • Participate in safety meetings and daily briefings.
  • Adhere to SECURE's Occupational Health and Safety Program.
  • Provide general labor support as needed in the Transfer Station, Sludge Facility, and Water Plant.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Strong work ethic and resilience in challenging weather conditions and demanding workdays.
  • Physically fit and capable of performing daily physical tasks, including lifting and moving heavy materials.
  • Effective time management skills and ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Competent in completing daily documentation, including waste manifests and bills of lading.
  • Previous experience in a related environment where TDG or WHMIS is essential is an asset.
  • Experience operating a forklift or other small equipment safely and efficiently is preferred.
  • Proficient in English (reading, writing, speaking), including some technical terminology.

  • Good computer skills and proficiency in MS Office.
  • Post-secondary education in Science related to Chemistry, Biology, or Environmental Studies is an asset.
