Job Summary

The Shelter Support Worker plays a vital role in providing emotional support, information, referrals, and advocacy to women and children in crisis. This position requires a strong understanding of trauma-informed care and harm reduction principles, as well as the ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide emotional support and guidance to women and children in crisis
  • Facilitate day-to-day communal living among residents of the Women and Children's program
  • Develop and implement individualized support plans to meet the unique needs of each resident
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure seamless service delivery
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development to enhance skills and knowledge
Requirements
  • Diploma in Community Social Services, Social Service Work, or a related field
  • Two years of recent experience providing support to women and/or children in crisis within a residential setting
  • Level 1 Occupational First Aid Certificate
  • Mandt training
  • Food Safe Certificate
  • WHMIS training
  • Narcan training
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with Indigenous and Racialized Women
  • Knowledge of child welfare and protection issues, including relevant legislation and reporting requirements
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both written and verbally
