Job Overview

The primary responsibility of the Shipping and Receiving Associate is to ensure that all incoming and outgoing freight is accurately processed and maintained in suitable condition for subsequent transport. This role involves communication with clients and shipping partners regarding various aspects of freight logistics.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with various departments to meet operational objectives.
  • Utilize forklift and other freight handling equipment to efficiently load and unload transport vehicles.
  • Conduct precise piece counts, categorize, label, and store diverse freight and cargo promptly.
  • Inspect incoming shipments for damage, ensure compliance with regulations for hazardous materials, and verify documentation accuracy.
  • Complete all necessary paperwork and maintain records related to the shipping and receiving of cargo according to established standards.
  • Keep the warehouse, storage areas, and shipping docks organized and clean.
  • Adhere to all safety policies and procedures during the execution of assigned tasks.
  • Report any defects found in ground service equipment or warehouse supplies to the appropriate supervisor.
  • Enter all incoming freight data into the freight tracking software accurately.
  • Manage inventory control processes.
  • Support ground crew operations as needed.
  • Assist with the loading and unloading of freight from aircraft when required.
  • Contribute to shipping and receiving tasks as necessary.
  • Maintain a tidy and safe working environment.
  • Promote a positive workplace atmosphere and foster a healthy working environment.
  • Uphold Wasaya's Customer Care Commitments to both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Perform any other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
  • Previous experience in shipping and receiving is advantageous.
  • Demonstrated mechanical skills.
  • Proven ability to operate material handling equipment, including forklifts.
  • Basic mathematical proficiency.
  • Familiarity with completing waybills is beneficial.
  • Strong computer skills, particularly in MS Office, and proficient in internet and email usage.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team setting as well as independently.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Capacity to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to interact with individuals in a sensitive, tactful, and professional manner.
  • Proficiency in Oji-Cree or Ojibway is a plus.
  • Previous experience in the airline industry is an asset.
  • Knowledge of First Nations Organizations is beneficial.

Working Conditions
