Job Title: Education Assistant

We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Education Assistant to join our team at Ruth King Elementary School. The successful candidate will provide support to students with autism, behaviour disorders, learning and physical disabilities, syndromes, and disorders that affect learning.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Participate in the planning and implementation of Individual Education Plan goals, objectives, and supports
  • Supervise students within the school, on the playground, and on field trips, including transitioning between activities
  • Assist students during classroom activities
  • Support social inclusion in the classroom and on the playground through implementing self-regulation strategies, behaviour support strategies, communication strategies, and monitoring behaviour
  • Objectively observe and record student behaviour, as required
  • Report safety, unusual behaviour, and discipline concerns to the principal or designate, but resolve any minor disagreements where possible
Requirements:
  • Secondary school graduation or equivalent
  • Education Assistant Certification or equivalent in a related field or equivalent experience working with individuals with disabilities
  • Minimum three (3) months of experience working with children
  • Knowledge and understanding of child development
  • Familiarity with Individual Education Plans and Individual Care Plans an asset
Working Conditions:

The successful candidate will be required to work in a fast-paced environment, with a high level of energy and enthusiasm. The candidate will be required to physically support students, including lifting and transferring, and may be required to support transferring students on and off buses. The candidate will also be required to walk or run, indoors and outdoors, in various weather conditions.
