Position Overview:


As a vital member of a multidisciplinary chronic disease management team focused on bariatric and diabetes care, the Clinical Psychologist I is responsible for conducting psychological evaluations and assessments for individuals managing chronic health issues such as obesity and diabetes.

This role involves leading and co-facilitating client screenings, assessments, therapeutic interventions, and structured group sessions.

Employing an educational framework, the psychologist will share insights, address challenges, and collaboratively develop personalized treatment plans with the inter-professional team.

The psychologist is tasked with applying evidence-based practices and conducting thorough analyses of clients' psychological requirements to ensure optimal support for those affected by obesity.

As an integral part of the healthcare team, the psychologist is expected to uphold clinical and professional standards while working in conjunction with other professionals to synchronize activities.

This role supports both the bariatric and diabetes clinics and may extend to assisting other individuals with chronic health conditions.

Key Responsibilities:


- Conduct psychological assessments and provide counseling services.

- Collaborate with primary care providers and specialists.

- Exercise decision-making autonomy and accountability in delivering safe and effective care.

- Advocate for patients and their families.

- Implement quality management practices by collecting data to evaluate client outcomes, ensuring adherence to established policies.


In addition to a competitive salary, Alberta Health Services offers a Remote Retention Allowance, providing up to $3,000 annually, payable on an hourly basis for all hours worked at the standard pay rate.


Job Description:


As a Clinical Psychologist I, you will engage with teams to deliver a comprehensive range of psychology services to patients and their families, adhering to established standards, directives, and policies.

Your responsibilities may encompass psychological evaluations, diagnosis, therapeutic interventions, rehabilitation, preventive measures, and educational initiatives.

You will work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals to plan and implement services that align with best practices and uphold ethical and professional standards.

Your role will include providing insights to the interprofessional team regarding psychological factors, barriers, and dynamics that impact client treatment planning, engagement, outcomes, and team effectiveness, as well as consulting and collaborating with community services.

Additional duties may involve supervising psychometrists, provisional psychologists, and master's level psychology students, contributing to program, policy, and procedure development, and participating in formal research initiatives.

Required Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Psychology from an accredited university program, relevant to the practice setting. Active or eligible for registration with the College of Alberta Psychologists (CAP).

Additional Required Qualifications:
- A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a healthcare or related environment, ideally within a large, complex, and diverse organization.

Understanding and respect for the philosophy of bariatric and diabetes services, self-management, mutual aid, and adult education principles is essential, along with an awareness of the impact of chronic health conditions on individuals and the healthcare system.

Experience working with diverse and vulnerable populations is advantageous. Skills in community development and engagement are crucial. Specialized training in the evaluation and counseling of individuals with obesity is preferred. Strong assessment, organizational, and client care skills are necessary, along with the ability to communicate findings clearly and accurately. Leading group therapy sessions and collaborating closely with the inter-professional team is essential. Familiarity with disordered eating and emotional eating is beneficial. Involvement in program planning, development, evaluation, and policy formulation may also be required.

Ability to cultivate a cooperative environment and establish solid relationships with Alberta Health Services, public agencies, government bodies, committees, and other partners.

Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills are essential.
