About the Role:
The BC SPCA is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Animal Care Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our shelter staff, you will play a vital role in ensuring the health and well-being of the animals in our care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide exceptional care and attention to the physical and emotional needs of the animals, including feeding, cleaning, and providing a safe and comfortable environment.
- Work collaboratively with other shelter staff to maintain a clean, safe, and efficient shelter environment.
- Assist with the intake and processing of animals, including administering medications and providing medical care as needed.
- Provide excellent customer service to the public, including answering questions and providing information about our shelter and services.
- Assist with adoption procedures, including preparing animals for adoption and providing information to potential adopters.
- Participate in training and professional development opportunities to enhance your skills and knowledge.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid Class N or 5 BC Drivers' License and driver's abstract.
- Philosophical harmony with the mission, vision, and strategic direction of the BC SPCA.
- Demonstrated interest in all aspects of animal welfare.
- Sound knowledge of animals, their breeds, characteristics, and common diseases.
- Strong desire to provide excellent customer service skills, including patience, professionalism, positive attitude, attention to detail, and adaptability.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Resourceful team player who excels at building trusting relationships with colleagues, customers, and volunteers.
- Highly motivated self-starter who takes initiative with minimal supervision.
- Ability to prioritize demands on time and maintain a high level of standards to portray the image of the BC SPCA as a compassionate and caring organization.
