Position Overview
We are in search of a knowledgeable and meticulous Senior Estimator to become a vital part of our team. This role presents an exciting opportunity for a seasoned professional with a minimum of ten years of experience in estimating steel-related projects. As a Senior Estimator, you will be instrumental in accurately predicting project costs, ensuring that our projects are competitive, profitable, and executed successfully.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Thoroughly review complete tender packages, including drawings, specifications, and addenda.
  2. Conduct detailed project take-offs.
  3. Calculate labor estimates accurately.
  4. Source material pricing through our internal purchasing department or by negotiating directly with suppliers.
  5. Gather subcontractor pricing for various services such as painting, galvanizing, and non-destructive testing.
  6. Coordinate with the quality department, legal department, and insurance provider to review pertinent sections of the tender package.
  7. Consult with the drafting manager to obtain man-hours for in-house drafting work.
  8. Request pricing from drafting subcontractors as necessary.
  9. Prepare and submit lead letters when appropriate.
  10. Draft and present proposals and quotes.
  11. Follow up on bids and gather insights to enhance our future bidding processes, ensuring all information is documented in the estimating database.
  12. Prepare estimates for project managers upon request.
  13. Engage in weekly estimating meetings, providing updates on the status of ongoing estimates, pending responses, and outcomes of bids.
  14. Maintain an organized electronic estimate file on the network for each estimate under your purview.
  15. Review contracts or purchase orders to ensure alignment with our proposals before accepting awards.
  16. Complete the Contract Review and Profile form and Tender Review form when a bid is successful.
  17. Compile relevant information packages for handover to project management staff.
  18. Advocate for and uphold safety standards within the organization.
  19. Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of ten years of experience in estimation or project management within the construction sector, with a preference for candidates experienced in custom steel, bridges, or structural work.
  • An undergraduate degree in engineering or a post-secondary diploma in a construction-related field.
  • A solid understanding of civil construction principles, including plans, specifications, methods, and procedures.
  • In-depth knowledge of bid preparation principles, including quantity take-off procedures, sub-trade procurement, pricing, and bid closing processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines effectively.

Job Type: Full-time, Permanent

Compensation: Starting from $100,000.00 per year
