Working at Pembina means prioritizing safety in all aspects of our operations.

Position Overview:

Pembina Pipeline Corporation is seeking a Safety Advisor to join our team in Grande Prairie, Alberta, supporting our pipeline operations. This role reports to the Safety Supervisor (Central) within the Safety Business Unit, part of Pembina's External Affairs, Legal, and Sustainability Division.

As part of our commitment to promoting Pembina's Safety Culture – Zero by Choice, the Safety Team is dedicated to providing high-quality products and services by leading enterprise-wide occupational health and safety initiatives, process safety, physical security, and emergency management programs. The Safety team ensures compliance with all relevant company, federal, and local health, safety, security, and emergency management regulations, fostering a safe and healthy work environment for our employees, contractors, and the communities we serve.

The primary focus of this role is to collaborate with operations to implement and manage proactive prevention strategies that enhance performance and ensure compliance with regulatory, industry, and corporate standards.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Advocate for safe and cost-effective preventative measures and loss management strategies in daily pipeline operations to minimize potential losses and ensure adherence to regulatory and corporate policies, standards, and procedures.
  • Collaborate with operations management and personnel to cultivate a robust safety culture.
  • Participate in or review hazard assessments for high-risk activities, such as confined space entry and construction projects, providing on-site safety support and ensuring appropriate controls are in place.
  • Assist in the review, development, and documentation of field procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory and corporate requirements, conducting field reviews to verify implementation.
  • Engage in various internal and external audits and reviews, including ground disturbance, energy isolation, and safety culture assessments.
  • Actively participate in area safety meetings, delivering regular presentations on critical safety topics and following up on identified safety-related items.
  • Review and assist with incident investigations, reporting, and follow-up actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Coordinate updates and the development of Safety Standards and Lessons Learned from Incidents.
  • Support the review, development, and documentation of procedures and task analyses to ensure construction, maintenance, and operational activities meet Pembina and regulatory standards.
  • Collaborate with project managers to establish and execute safety project inspection requirements and activities, liaising with third-party safety inspectors for oversight.
  • Serve as the field safety liaison for internal or external parties requiring field information or activities.
  • Promote Pembina's safety culture of "Zero by Choice" and the "Life Saving Rules".
  • Contribute to an equitable, diverse, and inclusive workplace.
Qualifications:
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in pipeline operations or related industries with transferable skills.
  • Designation or completion of one of the following is advantageous:
  • Canadian Registered Safety Professional (Canadian designation).
  • Occupational Health and Safety Certificate(s).
  • Occupational Health and Safety Diploma or Technical Certificates.
  • Strong understanding of applicable industry safety requirements, standards, policies, and procedures, including those of OH&S (BC and Alberta), AER, CER, OGC, and CSA.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage positively with field and project personnel.
  • Proficient in MS Office and capable of working with various business-related software applications.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License, with a requirement to provide a Driver's Abstract.

This position requires the successful candidate to reside within a reasonable distance from the Grande Prairie office.
