About the Role

We are seeking experienced lawyers to join our roster for the Independent Legal Advice (ILA) Program, providing critical support to adult survivors of sexual assault in Nova Scotia.

Program Overview

The ILA Program offers up to 4 hours of free confidential legal advice to eligible survivors, with a focus on providing a safe and supportive environment for them to access justice.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide independent legal advice to adult survivors of sexual assault, adhering to the program's guidelines and protocols.
  • Respond promptly to client inquiries, ensuring timely and effective communication.
  • Collaborate with 211 Nova Scotia to confirm client eligibility and certificate numbers.
  • Submit required documents for billing purposes in a timely manner.
  • Participate in mandatory training and community of practice meetings to enhance skills and knowledge.
Eligibility Criteria
  • Be a practicing lawyer with experience in criminal law and sexual assault cases.
  • Be a member in good standing of the Nova Scotia Barristers' Society.
  • Have a strong commitment to providing trauma-informed support to survivors of sexual assault.
  • Be able to work independently and as part of a team.
