Job SummaryWe are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Fifth Class Power Engineer to join our team at Prairie Mountain Health. As a key member of our facilities maintenance team, you will be responsible for performing preventative maintenance, installation, and repairs of equipment, as well as maintaining buildings and grounds in accordance with our organization's policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities- Plan and organize daily work schedule to ensure all duties are performed in a timely manner and appropriately prioritize duties according to an assessment of safety and risk.
- Respond to maintenance requisitions from other services within the facility in a timely manner.
- Provide assistance to other services within the facility as requested.
- Maintain a log of maintenance requisitions in accordance with established procedure.
- Perform preventative maintenance on equipment according to established preventative maintenance schedule.
- Check and service emergency back-up systems, alarm systems, and oxygen concentrators.
- Install, repair, and maintain equipment, buildings, and grounds within scope of qualifications and in accordance with established workflow schedules and safety requirements.
- Competently and safely handle and use a variety of hand and power tools.
- Assume responsibility for waste management, including transportation and/or incineration.
- Check and restock supplies for the Maintenance Services.
- Receive and check the delivery of supplies and equipment to the facility.
- Perform regular fire drills and complete reports as required by policy.
- Participate in the Maintenance Services on-call system where deemed necessary.
- Contribute to a safe environment by adhering to WHMIS Guidelines, Workplace Safety and Health Regulations, and Infection Control Guidelines.
- Adhere to building codes and safety regulations in all Maintenance Services activities.
- Ensure familiarity with the applicable facility fire and disaster plan.
- Respond to emergency codes as required.
- Understand role and responsibility in fire prevention and disaster preparedness.
- Demonstrate knowledge of body mechanics, and use proper techniques for lifting supplies and equipment.
- Demonstrate knowledge in the safe use of all equipment and follow established cleaning and/or maintenance schedules.
- Recognize own level of competence and seek appropriate direction or assistance.
- Work within limitations of the position held and follow position description.
- Use critical thinking skills to guide decision making within scope of position description.
- Report pertinent information to the Fifth Class Power Engineer Maintenance Supervisor or designate.
- Minimize waste and utilize supplies in a cost-effective manner.
- Complete required documentation accurately and within established timelines.
- Participate in health promotion activities within the facility and the community.
- Demonstrate knowledge and application of accepted communication principles.
- Communicate effectively with clients and other members of the health care team.
- Establish and maintain effective interpersonal relationships with all members of the health care team.
- Actively participate in team meetings, staff meetings, and other facility and regional activities.
- Assist in the orientation and development of new staff and students as required.
- Identify own learning needs and participate in goal setting to enhance work performance.
- Participate in in-services and workshops at a facility, regional, or provincial level as available.
- Follow established process for education attendance approval.
- Keep up to date with the policies and procedures of the Assiniboine Regional Health Authority.
- Keep up to date with Maintenance Services identified best practices and recommend changes to current practices as appropriate.
- Other duties as assigned.
