Position Summary:
The Mechanical-Structural Engineer is responsible for critical engineering functions that support both fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircraft. This includes collaborating with production teams, designing mechanical systems and structures for aircraft maintenance and modifications, conducting structural analyses, and managing engineering projects as per client requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct technical investigations and provide engineering support for fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircraft.
- Engage in liaison engineering activities to assist production teams in meeting project timelines.
- Implement non-standard repairs and structural modifications, including necessary analyses to support maintenance programs.
- Design modifications for mechanical systems in aircraft.
- Oversee engineering project management related to modifications, alternative parts, or changes in maintenance protocols.
- Lead or participate in aircraft modification design initiatives.
- Prepare comprehensive engineering reports to support aircraft modification and installation efforts.
- Perform airworthiness assessments related to design modifications implemented through repairs.
- Review and prepare formal engineering documentation and reports.
- Mentor junior engineers and support their professional development.
- Undertake additional responsibilities as required.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Aeronautical/Mechanical Engineering or Civil Engineering, or a Technologist Diploma.
- Eligibility for registration with ENS or Tech Nova.
- Ability to work autonomously as well as collaboratively within a team.
- Proficiency in MS Office and MS Windows.
- Strong verbal, written, and presentation skills.
- Excellent organizational capabilities.
- Familiarity with project management principles.
- Experience with military or commercial aircraft is advantageous.
- Understanding of aircraft structures and systems.
- Knowledge of engineering drawings and relevant military specifications, particularly for aircraft.
- Familiarity with structural repair standards for both metallic and composite materials.
- Experience with drafting software such as AutoCAD or CATIA is a plus.
- Understanding of classical stress analysis principles.
- Knowledge of fatigue analysis and damage tolerance assessments is beneficial.
- Experience with on-aircraft testing.
- Database creation and management skills.
- Knowledge of civil or military airworthiness and certification processes.
- Experience level can vary from entry-level to over 20 years; compensation will reflect experience.
- Must meet the requirements for Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), and Canadian government security clearances.
