Position Overview: Reporting to the Manager of Clinical Genomics, the Genomics Laboratory Technologist I is responsible for delivering laboratory services for diagnostic purposes to support clinical care, as well as academic and research initiatives. Key responsibilities include:

1. Performing PCR techniques, including RT-PCR and fluorescent PCR
2. Conducting sequencing, MLPA, RAD, Microarray, and NGS analysis
3. Executing gel electrophoresis
4. Engaging in basic operational problem-solving using analytical methods
5. Setting up cytogenetic specimens, tissue culture, and harvest
6. Operating and maintaining standard laboratory equipment and instruments
7. Implementing QA/QC procedures and documentation
8. Adhering to established operational policies, procedures, and protocols, while complying with safety guidelines and legislation relevant to healthcare

Work Schedule: Monday to Friday; 7.5 hours per day; availability for weekends and on-call duties as required.

Qualifications:

1. Currently enrolled in or a graduate of a recognized Clinical Genetics Technology program
2. Preferred experience in Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) and/or Microarray techniques
3. Valid Nova Scotia College of Medical Laboratory Technology (NSCMLT) license or eligibility
4. Excellent verbal and written communication skills
5. Strong problem-solving, organizational, time management, and prioritization abilities
6. Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment
7. Commitment to ongoing technical expertise and professional development
