Position Overview: Reporting to the Manager of Clinical Genomics, the Genomics Laboratory Technologist I is responsible for delivering laboratory services for diagnostic purposes to support clinical care, as well as academic and research initiatives. Key responsibilities include:
- Performing PCR techniques, including RT-PCR and fluorescent PCR
- Conducting sequencing, MLPA, RAD, Microarray, and NGS analysis
- Executing gel electrophoresis
- Engaging in basic operational problem-solving using analytical methods
- Setting up cytogenetic specimens, tissue culture, and harvest
- Operating and maintaining standard laboratory equipment and instruments
- Implementing QA/QC procedures and documentation
- Adhering to established operational policies, procedures, and protocols, while complying with safety guidelines and legislation relevant to healthcare
Work Schedule: Monday to Friday; 7.5 hours per day; availability for weekends and on-call duties as required.
Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in or a graduate of a recognized Clinical Genetics Technology program
- Preferred experience in Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) and/or Microarray techniques
- Valid Nova Scotia College of Medical Laboratory Technology (NSCMLT) license or eligibility
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong problem-solving, organizational, time management, and prioritization abilities
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment
- Commitment to ongoing technical expertise and professional development
