About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Learning Assistant to join our team at Rocky View Schools. As a Learning Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting the diverse needs of learners within the classroom, school, and community settings.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide assistance to students with complex needs, including those who require additional types of supports such as personal, medical care, and safety needs.
  • Implement and reinforce strategies as directed by teaching staff and identified in student Personalized Learning Plans (PLPs), Individualized Program Plans (IPPs), Behaviour Support Plans (BSPs), safety plans, and medical plans.
  • Record observations and other data on behavioral challenges and create records that can be used to support positive behavior strategies for students.
  • Participate in collaborative planning meetings for IPPs or SSPs as requested.
  • Provide assistance with preparation of individualized program materials under the direction of the classroom teacher/student support teacher.
  • Actively promote student learning and independence.
  • Facilitate interaction among students with special needs and their peers.
  • Respect confidentiality and maintain privacy of information related to students and personnel.
  • Support students with routine personal care activities such as toileting, movement, personal hygiene, eating, drinking, and feeding.
  • Assist in exercising, adaptive physical education, range of motion programs, and fine and gross motor skills development as directed by a specialist and monitored by a teacher.
  • Support students' medical needs as directed, including assisting the student with transfers, tube feeding, and managing tracheotomy needs, oxygen, catheterization, administration of prescription medication, and other routine medical requirements.
Requirements
  • Education: Educational Assistant Certificate or a certificate/diploma in a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum one (1) year experience working with students with challenging behavior and applying positive behavior supports is considered an asset.
  • Certifications: CPR/First Aid Certification or willingness to become certified is considered an asset.
