The Family Support Specialist at Family Services of Greater Vancouver plays a crucial role in delivering services aimed at enhancing family dynamics and connecting them with community resources. This position involves providing various educational, supportive, and counseling services to children and families referred by the Ministry of Children and Family Development.

What You Bring: Education, Training, Experience:

  • Master’s degree in social work or clinical counseling or equivalent education and experience
  • A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
  • Familiarity with child welfare policies and practices
  • Proficient understanding of various parenting strategies and the ability to communicate these strategies effectively
  • Comprehensive knowledge of child development and the dynamics of child abuse
  • Insight into integrated case management and wrap-around service delivery
  • Understanding of child and adolescent developmental stages
  • Exceptional crisis intervention capabilities
  • Ability to engage with families facing multiple service needs related to poverty, addiction, violence, child abuse or neglect, and mental health challenges
  • Competence in providing counseling through diverse approaches tailored to client needs, whether in the office, community, or home settings
  • Commitment to the Agency's goals surrounding diversity, inclusion, justice, and equity
  • Proficiency in computer operating systems, including Microsoft Office 365, Excel, SharePoint, and MS Teams

Additional Requirements:

  • Class 5 Driver's License and access to a personal vehicle
  • Availability to work evenings and weekends as needed
  • Successful completion of a Criminal Record Check
