Early Childhood Educator Opportunity


Located in the beautiful Okanagan Valley, the Okanagan Indian Band is seeking a qualified Early Childhood Educator to join our team. As an On-Call Educator, you will play a vital role in providing a safe and nurturing environment for young children, fostering their physical, intellectual, emotional, social, creative, and cultural development.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Plan and implement a high-quality program based on the centre's philosophy, promoting the intellectual, physical, and emotional growth of children.
  • Lead daily activities, encouraging cooperation and participation from all children, while maintaining a safe and secure environment.
  • Liaise with colleagues and professionals to meet the needs of children, ensuring a collaborative approach to childcare.
  • Treat each child with dignity, respect, love, sensitivity, and care, using guidance techniques that are age-appropriate, fair, and encourage socially acceptable behavior.
  • Monitor and record signs and symptoms of ill health, inform the Room Supervisor, and implement scheduled housekeeping duties.
  • Teach health and nutrition, rest habits, and personal hygiene, maintaining hygiene practices and following the policy for administration of medication.
  • Administer basic First Aid as required and maintain constant supervision of indoor and outdoor play.
  • Maintain a positive liaison with parents, encouraging open communication concerning the needs and progress of their child.
  • Contribute to the monthly parent newsletter and participate in planning and implementing special events, workshops, and meetings for parents.
  • Attend centre staff meetings, ensure weekly timesheets are completed, and maintain up-to-date records concerning individual children, attendance, child observations, etc.
  • Communicate pertinent information to the Daycare Manager, write parent handouts, and abide by the Personnel Policy and Procedure Manual of the Okanagan Indian Band and the Early Childhood Educators of B.C. Code of Ethics.
Requirements:
  • Early Childhood Educator Certification or Diploma.
  • Current First Aid Certificate as per Schedule C of the Childcare Licensing Regulations.
  • Approved with a Certificate from the BC Childcare Registry to work as an ECE Educator.
  • Experience working with children under the age of six, preferably in a daycare centre.
  • Experience working with First Nations communities is an asset.
  • Valid BC driver's license, class 5, and reliable vehicle.
  • Criminal records check with vulnerable sector clearance.
