Job Summary

The Information Technology Director will lead the strategic planning process for developing and implementing a comprehensive technology strategic plan aligned with Taft College's mission and goals.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement a technology strategic plan that aligns with the college's mission and goals.
  • Collaborate with college leadership to integrate technology into institutional planning and decision-making processes.
  • Identify innovative solutions to enhance teaching, learning, and administrative operations.
  • Oversee daily operations of the IT operations, ensuring efficient and effective support for students, faculty, and staff.
  • Implement best practices for IT service delivery and management.
  • Manage the college's network infrastructure, data centers, and cloud services.
  • Oversee cybersecurity, network, and support operations and team members.
  • Maintain, improve, and report on the District technology resources inventory.
  • Assist departments in addressing functional needs, purchasing equipment, networking/integration, providing appropriate hardware and software upgrades, managing installation, storage, and data integrity.
  • Direct staff in assisting faculty, support staff, and administration in evaluating emerging technologies, maintaining technology literacy and creative application of technology resources.
  • Develop and maintain information security guidelines, policies, and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations, including FERPA, HIPAA, and California privacy laws.
  • Lead cybersecurity initiatives and oversee the implementation of security measures.
  • Arrange for needed cybersecurity training across campus.
  • Lead IT initiatives, including network resiliency assessment.
  • Manage vendor relationships and contracts for technology services and products.
  • Oversee the implementation of technologies to support distance education and hybrid learning models.
  • Establish standards for technology hardware, software, and communications protocols.
  • Develop and manage the annual IT budget.
  • Recruit, train, and mentor IT staff to build a high-performing team.
  • Provide professional development opportunities for IT staff.
  • Develop strong partnerships with academic and administrative departments.
  • Communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders, including students, faculty, staff, and community partners.
  • Represent IT interests in college-wide decision-making and policy development.
  • Lead the development, implementation, and regular testing of the college's IT incident response plan.
  • Coordinate with relevant departments to ensure a swift and effective response to IT-related incidents.
  • Conduct regular risk assessments and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Provide leadership during IT-related emergencies or security breaches.
Requirements:
  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a closely related field.
  • Minimum of 7 years of progressive IT leadership experience, including server and network administration, with at least 3 years in a management role, preferably in higher education.
  • Strong knowledge of current and emerging technologies, including cloud computing, data analytics, and cybersecurity.
  • Proven track record of successful technology implementations and integrations.
  • Demonstrated experience in strategic planning, project management, and change management.
  • Understanding of the California Community College system and its unique challenges and opportunities.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with grant writing and management.
  • Knowledge of energy-efficient and sustainable IT practices.
