About Our Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Family Support Specialist to join our team at the Government of Nova Scotia. As a key member of our Child and Family Wellbeing program, you will play a vital role in providing support to children, youth, and families in need.

Primary Accountabilities
  • Develop and Implement Support Plans: Collaborate with social workers to develop and implement comprehensive support plans that address the unique needs of each family.
  • Build Positive Relationships: Establish and maintain positive relationships with diverse clients, including families, children, and youth, ensuring respect, empathy, and understanding of their individual circumstances.
  • Advocate and Connect: Advocate for clients and connect them with community resources and services to support their well-being and independence.
  • Provide Education and Guidance: Develop and deliver education and guidance to families and youth on topics such as independent living, life skills, and healthy relationships.
  • Conduct Home Visits and Assessments: Conduct home visits and assessments to identify the needs of each family and develop strategies to support their well-being.
Qualifications and Experience

We are seeking candidates with a strong background in social services, child and youth care, or a related field. A diploma or degree in a relevant field is required, and experience working with vulnerable populations is an asset.

Candidates must possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse clients and stakeholders. A valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle are also required.
