Position: Assistant Controller

The Assistant Controller is tasked with aiding the Regional Controller in implementing the financial and accounting strategy in alignment with Corporate Policies. This role will extend support to the Southwest Ontario (SWO) Region, encompassing joint ventures and National Service functions.
Key Responsibilities:
•Execute general ledger journal entries, including month-end and year-end procedures.
•Scrutinize invoice coding and expense reports for precision.
•Compile financial reports for Operations.
•Generate weekly reports for the Service Division Manager, incorporating Safety & Training Statistics.
•Assist in the revision of annual and quarterly budget and forecast templates.
•Manage tax and government remittances.
•Supervise monthly account and bank reconciliations.
•Support general ledger accountability, monitor overhead and recoveries, review expenses, and ensure cost control, including month-end procedures and audit readiness.
•Collaborate with the Regional Controller on fleet management and accounts receivable tasks.
•Conduct monthly variance analysis (actual vs. budget).
•Work alongside administrators & coordinators to guarantee work orders and purchase orders are processed in accordance with company policies.
•Review hourly payroll managed by the Payroll Administrator.
•Administer Salary Payroll for the Region, including T4 and T2200 distribution.
•Oversee banking operations, including processing EFTs and banking files.
•Assist the Controller and Division Managers with special requests.
•Guide and mentor Administrators.
•Undertake additional responsibilities as assigned.
Joint Venture Duties:
•Manage month-end accounting tasks, including drafting initial financial statements for Regional Controller review.
•Oversee all financial aspects of Joint Ventures, including billing, Accounts Payable, and Accounts Receivable functions.
•Perform monthly variance analysis (actual vs. budget).
•Prepare and maintain reconciliation files and working papers to support annual review engagements by external auditors and US Partners.
National Service Operations:
•Produce National Service & National Account reports on a monthly and quarterly basis as required.
•Assist in standardizing month-end Service and Best Practice (BPS) procedures.
•Support the National Service Controller in developing Administrative Training nationally.
Qualifications:
•Completion of a relevant degree program (Accounting, Finance) from a recognized institution and actively pursuing an accounting designation.
•Preference will be given to candidates with an Accounting Designation.
•3-5 years of experience in a comparable role.
•Strong analytical capabilities.
•Comprehensive understanding of full-cycle accounting.
•Self-motivated with the ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and perform well under pressure.
•Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
•Demonstrated interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
•Proficient technical skills in Excel and Word.
•Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
•Experience with ERP systems (JD Edwards experience is a plus).
•Experience in the construction sector is advantageous.
