The Invitation

Do you have a passion for fostering reconciliation through education, developing community-engaged curricula, and conducting transformative research? Yukon University is in search of a faculty member who is deeply dedicated to teaching, research, and scholarship. The Opportunity
Yukon University is entering an exciting phase of growth. With a newly established Strategic Plan, Academic Plan, and Reconciliation Framework, YukonU is committed to enhancing postsecondary education options for Yukoners and Northerners. This includes the creation of a locally developed Social Work degree. This initiative will involve extensive collaboration with Yukon First Nations, community organizations, and both current and former students, drawing on three decades of experience from our partnership with the University of Regina. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in this project, contributing significantly to all aspects of degree development while providing high-quality educational experiences and engaging in relevant research and scholarly activities.
YukonU's Social Work program will encompass theoretical knowledge, practical experiences, and clinical practices that honor the diverse cultures, historical contexts, systemic influences, and specific implications pertinent to Social Work in the North. The program will also prioritize trauma-informed, reconciliation-focused practices that recognize the vital contributions, traditional knowledge, and lived experiences of Yukon First Nations and Indigenous Peoples in Canada.
The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching, engaging in research and scholarly activities, developing curricula, and collaborating with peers across YukonU's academic community.
Key responsibilities include:
- Teaching at the undergraduate level, including student supervision;
- Participating in degree development, including program mapping, course and curriculum design, ensuring ongoing relevance in collaboration with Yukon First Nations;
- Engaging in research and scholarly activities, including partnered and co-created research with Indigenous Peoples, and mentoring students involved in research;
- Fostering an inclusive, equitable, and collegial work environment throughout all activities.
- A doctoral degree in Social Work;
- A strong record of scholarly and/or creative activity in Social Work, preferably in collaboration with Indigenous, northern, or rural/remote communities;
- Significant experience in Social Work practice, ideally in Yukon, northern, or rural/remote contexts;
- Previous experience in postsecondary teaching;
- Demonstrated commitment to institutional service, whether in a university setting or through community engagement.
- Mentoring emerging faculty;
- Curriculum development and program assessment;
- Teaching through distance-education technologies.
