About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced System Engineering Specialist to join our team at Telesat. As a key member of our System Design team, you will play a critical role in the design and development of our next-generation satellite constellation, Lightspeed.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with Cross-Functional Teams: Work closely with our System Modeling and System Engineering teams to define the Lightspeed system architecture, system requirements, and network element specifications.
  • Design and Develop Key System Aspects: Contribute to the design and development of key aspects such as end-to-end communication, resource allocation mechanisms, network entry mechanism, network element management systems, service availability, EPFD compliance and coordination mechanisms, satellite payload power consumption management, resource utilization efficiency, spectrum management, user terminal type integration, and concepts of operation.
  • Provide Technical Leadership: Provide technical guidance and leadership to junior engineers in the System Design team.
  • Develop and Maintain System Architecture Documentation: Develop and maintain Lightspeed system architecture documentation, including subsystems definition, interfaces, and data flows, to ensure optimal performance and reliability of the system.
  • Collaborate with System Integration and Test Team: Collaborate with the System Integration and Test team to plan the integration and testing of all elements of the Lightspeed constellation system.
  • Identify and Manage Technical Risks: Identify and manage technical risks related to the system design and develop mitigation strategies and contingency plans as needed.
  • Stay Up-to-Date with Emerging Technologies: Stay up-to-date with emerging technologies and trends in the satellite industry and contribute innovative ideas to design and operation of the Lightspeed constellation system.
Requirements
  • Education and Experience: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field. Proven experience in satellite system architecture and design, with a minimum of 10 years in similar roles.
  • Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of satellite communication protocols, orbital mechanics, and space systems. Experience with software defined satellite communication payloads. Familiarity with regulatory bodies and space industry standards.
  • Soft Skills: Creative problem-solver with thorough attention to detail. Highly collaborative team-player who can quickly earn the confidence of co-workers and teammates. Strong leadership and communication skills. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
