About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Backend Software Engineer to join our team at Groupe SII. As a key member of our Visualization and Interactive Data Analysis group, you will play a critical role in developing high-performance systems to transform, analyze, and query large datasets.

Responsibilities
  • Design and Develop High-Performance Systems: Create scalable systems to feed data visualization interfaces, leveraging expertise in Python, data transformation, and querying.
  • API Development and Maintenance: Design, implement, and maintain APIs to quickly access data from web-based applications, ensuring seamless integration with our data visualization tools.
  • Workflow Process Management: Develop and maintain processes to schedule, execute, and monitor data transformation workflows, ensuring efficient data processing and analysis.
  • Collaboration and Problem-Solving: Work closely with computational scientists, biologists, and software engineers to identify emerging needs and develop innovative solutions to complex scientific software engineering challenges.
  • Cloud Infrastructure and Deployment: Collaborate with distributed teams to support software development efforts, ensuring seamless deployment and maintenance of systems in on-premise servers and cloud environments.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's degree or higher in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, or related fields.
  • Expertise: 5+ years of experience in Python, high-performance system development, and API design and maintenance.
  • Cloud Infrastructure: Proficiency in cloud infrastructure, particularly AWS, to establish APIs and data services or databases.
  • Scientific Computing: Experience with scientific computing packages (SciPy, NumPy, pandas, etc.) and efficient file formats for large data.
  • Soft Skills: Demonstrated adherence to best practices in software engineering, passion for continuous learning, and ability to teach others.
Nice-to-Haves
  • Formal Build/Release/Deploy Frameworks: Familiarity with frameworks like Jenkins, Travis CI, or CircleCI.
  • Containerized Workloads: Experience with Kubernetes, AWS Lambda, or other FaaS platforms.
  • Data Wrangling and Analysis: Proficiency in data wrangling, processing, and analysis in Python and/or R.
  • Biological Domain Knowledge: Familiarity with single cell genomics, Multi Assay Experiment, and other biological information representations.
