Position Overview

AECOM is actively seeking a Senior Construction Manager to oversee a significant, multi-faceted construction initiative. This role is primarily based on-site during standard working hours, with the possibility of evening and weekend commitments as necessary. The chosen candidate will engage daily with both the client and the contractor's on-site personnel, reporting directly to the Project Director.


Key Responsibilities

  • Leadership: Direct a team comprising resident engineers, field engineers, site inspectors, and visiting discipline engineers and architects. Serve as the main liaison among various stakeholders, including Metro Vancouver, AECOM, and the contractor's teams, providing essential guidance and strategic insights during executive project meetings.
  • Organizational Skills: Cultivate and maintain a structured work environment. Utilize existing documentation and communication tools to manage construction phase documentation effectively. Regularly update the project’s Construction Support Services Management Plan as needed.
  • Construction Support: Collaborate closely with the project team to navigate complex technical, financial, and contractual challenges. Supervise the review process for technical submissions and RFIs, employing established workflows. Develop and track KPIs to monitor construction performance and mitigate risks.
  • Field Coordination: Synchronize efforts between field and office staff, ensuring effective communication regarding ongoing and emerging site issues. Provide advance schedules for inspections and manage the quality of field reports.
  • Quality Management: Partner with the project Quality Manager to ensure comprehensive reporting of quality management findings. Establish and monitor quality KPIs to track field inspections and non-conformances.
  • Cost and Change Oversight: Oversee contract progress and recommend contractor payments. Manage the review process for all change requests, proactively addressing potential issues to minimize impacts.
  • Schedule Coordination: Collaborate with the contractor and scheduling team to review and manage the construction baseline schedule and updates.
  • Safety Management: Foster a culture of safety within the project team, ensuring compliance with contractor safety programs.
  • Effective Communication: Guide all field communications and maintain coordination with engineering communications. Build partnerships among clients, contractors, and stakeholders to resolve project issues efficiently.
  • Risk Management: Provide ongoing insights to the Project Director regarding emerging risks related to quality, schedule, and cost.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related field with a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in managing large-scale construction projects.
  • Proven experience in large industrial design and construction projects.
  • Exceptional communication and collaboration skills.
  • Experience in construction contract administration.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Metro Vancouver design, construction, or operations.
  • Background in wastewater design and construction projects.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng, PE, or CEng) eligible for registration with EGBC in Canada.
