Position Overview

The Senior Electrical Engineering Principal is a key figure within the IMAX product development team, overseeing the Electrical Design division with both technical expertise and professional leadership.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead a team of Electrical Engineers and Designers, assigning tasks and providing guidance and mentorship.
  • Engage in hands-on design, including schematics and layout, as well as testing of electronic boards for innovative IMAX products.
  • Collaborate across various engineering disciplines (Optical, Mechanical, Software) to ensure robust system architectures and clear documentation of interface points.
  • Support the global launch of products by ensuring that regulatory testing for systems and field replaceable units (FRUs) meets necessary certifications.
  • Participate in discussions regarding headcount planning, budgeting, and product roadmaps with engineering leadership.
  • Oversee and ensure adequate resources for sustaining engineering activities related to IMAX products.
  • Evaluate engineering resource utilization and monitor the progress of ongoing activities.
  • Take charge of the electrical product development process, suggesting enhancements as necessary.
  • Work with vendors to guarantee that components are manufactured to IMAX specifications and quality standards.
  • Propose alternative design strategies to maintain IMAX's leadership in cinema technology.
  • Provide electrical engineering support to various departments including Procurement, Quality, Manufacturing, Installation, and Technical Services.
Qualifications

To be considered for this role, candidates should possess:

  • A minimum of 3 years in an engineering leadership role or equivalent experience.
  • 7-10 years of hands-on experience in electrical design.
  • Experience in managing products through regulatory certification processes for a global product line.
  • Desirable experience with image/video processing pipelines utilizing FPGA or GPU-based manipulation.
  • Familiarity with video compression and processing techniques.
  • Experience in opto-mechanical design and embedded software is advantageous.
  • Strong ability to document electrical product requirements, designs, and implementations effectively.
  • Proven capability to collaborate with a multidisciplinary design team comprising mechanical, optical, and software professionals.
