Position Overview:

As a Lead Developer at Ignition, you will take charge of leading and managing a skilled team of frontend and backend developers. This pivotal role is essential for steering the technical vision, ensuring the delivery of top-notch software, and working closely with both external partners and internal stakeholders.

Your responsibilities will include developing and maintaining integrations between Ignition and our partners, ensuring the solutions are scalable and robust. This position demands a combination of technical proficiency and leadership skills, ideally suited for individuals with extensive experience in managing large-scale backend applications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee a team of frontend and backend developers, creating new features and enhancing existing functionalities within our modular monolith Ruby application, utilizing GraphQL API and React/Apollo SPA frontend.
  • Guide your team's technical strategy, balancing technical requirements to deliver software within set timelines while maintaining quality and adhering to development standards.
  • Enhance team capabilities through regular one-on-ones, mentoring, and coaching, providing timely feedback on performance.
  • Promote a positive culture that encourages high performance and continuous improvement within the team.
  • Manage the recruitment process for your team's frontend and backend developers, including sourcing, interviewing, hiring, onboarding, and overseeing the probation period for new hires.
  • Collaborate with external partners and internal stakeholders, including Product Managers, to develop a mutual understanding of product challenges and ensure solutions align with platform architecture.
  • Facilitate team rituals such as stand-ups, sprint planning, and retrospectives to ensure efficient operations and ongoing improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with processes such as pull requests, code reviews, and pair programming, fostering a culture of knowledge sharing and teamwork.
  • Coordinate with engineering leadership to make architectural decisions, design abstractions, and create frameworks that simplify development and enable team scalability.

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of experience in web application development, with a strong emphasis on backend technologies.
  • 3+ years of experience in team management, demonstrating the ability to build and lead a diverse, high-performing team.
  • Experience in leading or developing integrations with external partners and third-party services.
  • Strong leadership skills to motivate, influence, and build essential relationships.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and the capacity to navigate complex and ambiguous situations.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and effective communication with a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with our technology stack: JavaScript SPA using Styled Components, Ruby/Rails with GraphQL, Postgres, Redis, AWS, Sidekiq, RSpec, Cypress, and CI/CD using Buildkite.
  • Experience in a distributed team environment, working with continuous delivery, code reviews, sprints, and retrospectives.
  • The ability to engage in meaningful dialogue while maintaining an open mind.
  • A sense of humor and the ability to remain focused and enjoy high-pressure situations.
