Position Overview
The primary role of the Controller is to establish robust financial controls, generate financial reports for effective management of the Cambridge operations, and provide advisory support to management at both local and Strategic Business Unit (SBU) levels. This position aids plant management by delivering financial insights and analyses to help achieve both plant and corporate objectives. Responsibilities include ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting, budget formulation, fixed asset accounting, audits, payroll preparation, and maintaining the standard costs system. The Controller also assists with physical inventory management and reconciliation processes.
Key Responsibilities
Offer financial guidance and support to plant management in critical business decision-making processes, actively leading initiatives. Oversee all essential accounting operations, ensuring timely and accurate execution while developing methods to provide management with crucial information for achieving business goals. Prepare reports on labor efficiency and productivity. Analyze results at the gross profit level, focusing on controllable expenditures, variances from the annual operating plan, and manufacturing discrepancies. Engage in identifying and executing cost reduction strategies and improvements in working capital. Collaborate with corporate accounting by taking lead roles in both strategic and non-strategic initiatives as necessary. Prepare and present the annual operating plan. Manage the standard cost system effectively. Develop and oversee the accounting team at the Cambridge facility. Conduct capital forecasting and analysis. Support the Economic Value Added (EVA) decision-making process. Manage the reconciliation of general ledger accounts. Ensure all financial models and information are submitted as required, adhering to deadlines. Investigate opportunities for annual scientific research and development tax credits. Oversee compliance with SOX internal controls through process documentation, evaluating design effectiveness, and developing action plans to address control gaps. Assist the corporate tax department by preparing tax return packages and maintaining transfer pricing policies. Coordinate internal and external audits while maintaining comprehensive working papers. Comply with quality standards (QS9000/ISO/TS16949/ISO14001) to ensure re-certification. Collect and report monitoring data to support the Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) management system. Strive to meet company EHS objectives. Understand and adhere to all EHS policies. Participate in EHS teams and committees. Promote EHS initiatives and activities. Report opportunities for improvement and any EHS-related issues. Halt any work activities that pose EHS hazards.Minimum Qualifications
Canadian Accounting Designation (CPA, CMA, CGA, CA). A minimum of 5 years, ideally 7 to 12 years of experience in accounting within a manufacturing context. Proficiency in SAP (ERP system). Exceptional written and verbal communication skills. Ability to deliver professional presentations. Capable of working independently under pressure, with flexibility to adjust priorities as needed.
